Disney Acquires Lucasfilm and Subsidiaries for $4 Billion

Disney CEO Bob Iger and Lucasfilm co-CEO George Lucas.  Copyright Disney
Burbank, CA and San Francisco, CA (October 30, 2012) – Continuing its strategy of delivering exceptional creative content to audiences around the world, The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) has agreed to acquire Lucasfilm Ltd. in a stock and cash transaction. Lucasfilm is 100% owned by Lucasfilm Chairman and Founder, George Lucas.

Under the terms of the agreement and based on the closing price of Disney stock on October 26, 2012, the transaction value is $4.05 billion, with Disney paying approximately half of the consideration in cash and issuing approximately 40 million shares at closing. The final consideration will be subject to customary post-closing balance sheet adjustments.

"Lucasfilm reflects the extraordinary passion, vision, and storytelling of its founder, George Lucas," said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company. "This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney's unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value."

"For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next," said George Lucas, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucasfilm. "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I'm confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney's reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products."

Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of Lucasfilm, a leader in entertainment, innovation and technology, including its massively popular and "evergreen" Star Warsfranchise and its operating businesses in live action film production, consumer products, animation, visual effects, and audio post production. Disney will also acquire the substantial portfolio of cutting-edge entertainment technologies that have kept audiences enthralled for many years. Lucasfilm, headquartered in San Francisco, operates under the names Lucasfilm Ltd., LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound, and the present intent is for Lucasfilm employees to remain in their current locations.

Kathleen Kennedy, current Co-Chairman of Lucasfilm, will become President of Lucasfilm, reporting to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Additionally she will serve as the brand manager for Star Wars, working directly with Disney's global lines of business to build, further integrate, and maximize the value of this global franchise. Ms. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.

The acquisition combines two highly compatible family entertainment brands, and strengthens the long-standing beneficial relationship between them that already includes successful integration of Star Wars content into Disney theme parks in Anaheim, Orlando, Paris and Tokyo.

Driven by a tremendously talented creative team, Lucasfilm's legendary Star Wars franchise has flourished for more than 35 years, and offers a virtually limitless universe of characters and stories to drive continued feature film releases and franchise growth over the long term. Star Wars resonates with consumers around the world and creates extensive opportunities for Disney to deliver the content across its diverse portfolio of businesses including movies, television, consumer products, games and theme parks.Star Wars feature films have earned a total of $4.4 billion in global box to date, and continued global demand has made Star Wars one of the world's top product brands, and Lucasfilm a leading product licensor in the United States in 2011. The franchise provides a sustainable source of high quality, branded content with global appeal and is well suited for new business models including digital platforms, putting the acquisition in strong alignment with Disney's strategic priorities for continued long-term growth.

The Lucasfilm acquisition follows Disney's very successful acquisitions of Pixar and Marvel, which demonstrated the company's unique ability to fully develop and expand the financial potential of high quality creative content with compelling characters and storytelling through the application of innovative technology and multiplatform distribution on a truly global basis to create maximum value. Adding Lucasfilm to Disney's portfolio of world class brands significantly enhances the company's ability to serve consumers with a broad variety of the world's highest-quality content and to create additional long-term value for our shareholders.

The Boards of Directors of Disney and Lucasfilm have approved the transaction, which is subject to clearance under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act, certain non-United States merger control regulations, and other customary closing conditions. The agreement has been approved by the sole shareholder of Lucasfilm.

Dataton Projects the Horrors at Muncaster Castle

Courtesy Muncaster Castle
Link√∂ping, Sweden -- Muncaster Castle, situated on the Cumbrian coast on the edge of the Lake District, has a well-earned reputation as one of the most haunted buildings in the UK. Not surprisingly, Halloween Week is the busiest time of year for the Castle, which for the last eight years has used Dataton WATCHOUT™ production and presentation software to drive its exterior illuminations.

This year the Castle is gearing up for its busiest Halloween ever, and has upgraded to version 5 of WATCHOUT to ensure that the multimedia experience it offers is as compelling – and as scary – as it has ever been.

Peter Frost-Pennington, managing director of Muncaster Castle, takes up the story:“We haven’t invented any stories to entertain our audience. People from all over the world come to stay in our haunted bedroom for charity, and scientific work to detect paranormal activity is ongoing at the Castle.

“Back in 2003 we decided to put in an exterior lighting scheme to enhance the air of mystery surrounding the venue. The towers of the Castle are an interesting backdrop. We started projecting a few images of skulls and ghosts created in Powerpoint and run by Windows Media Player. But we always knew we could do more. We’d seen the projections that were done as part of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee using WATCHOUT, and we wanted that too.

“So in 2005 we invested in WATCHOUT. We met with Steve Selwyn from WATCHOUT Premium Partner Mirage Associates and he demonstrated what could be done using images from multiple computer sources. The result was a transformation. Suddenly we could have skeletons walking across the front of the Castle! The service and support from Mirage Associates over the years has been truly appreciated.”

In 2008, Muncaster Castle upgraded to version 4 of WATCHOUT and began working video into its shows, as well as still images and animated GIFs. This year the Castle upgraded again, to the latest version 5,and this has increased the projection system’s versatility even further.

Throughout the process, Mirage Associates has supported Muncaster Castle, advising on content and system setup.

“The projectors are in custom-made, weather-proof housings, and there is one computer for each tower of the Castle,” explains Selwyn. “Each show is on a 20-minute loop, synchronised with audio and lighting, and is shown to an audience of between 200 and 600 people each evening. It is a huge enhancement to the Castle’s visitor experience – especially in Halloween Week and also at Christmas, too.”

Fredrik Svahnberg, marketing director, Dataton, comments: “WATCHOUT is the perfect storytelling tool for a visitor attraction such as Muncaster Castle. Not only is it very easy to use for the end customer but, as this project proves, italso grows as that customer’s needs change. We look forward to seeing more ghosts, ghouls and other terrifying moving images on the walls of Muncaster Castle for years to come!”

Their consultative approach specifically demonstrated how Pronto’s software could deliver improved business outcomes from our operations,” Mr. Wexler added.

“From the very early stages in our discussions with HFE, we came with an approach to improve operations, processes and help the business’ bottom line. The Pronto Software model of engagement involves consulting and listening to customer needs to discover how our technology can be tailored to resolve their business challenges,” Terry Leister, vice president for Pronto Software in North America, said.

Rubicon Group Holdings to Transform Museum Exhibit from AMNH into Themed Attraction at Red Sea Astrarium

Copyright AMNH/D. Finnin
Los Angeles, CA, USA -- Rubicon Group Holding (RGH), designer and project manager for The Red Sea Astrarium (TRSA), has signed a licensing agreement with the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) for intellectual property rights to AMNH’s famed exhibition, “Traveling the Silk Road: Ancient Pathway to the Modern World;” it was announced today by RGH CEO Randa Ayoubi.

The new agreement grants RGH rights to use “Traveling the Silk Road” as the foundation for the design of a new interactive experience to be featured at the Astrarium, the US $1.5 billion leisure-resort now in development for Aqaba, Jordan.

“Traveling the Silk Road” explores the most celebrated trade route in human history through evocative sights, sounds and artifacts as well as intriguing interactive features, as it transports visitors to four ancient cities: Xi’an, Turfan, Samarkand and Baghdad. RGH will expand and enhance the exhibition at TRSA, adding an additional city to the mix and updating the interactive elements with new technology and media. The Silk Road exhibition will be layered throughout the Hijazi Gardens at the Astrarium, a sprawling botanical garden recreating the environments found at various points along history’s most important trade route.

“Everyone knows the Silk Road as an important trade route, but it was more than just a means of moving goods from one place to another, it was a vital conduit for the transfer of knowledge and ideas,” explained Lenny Larsen, Business Development Director of Themed Entertainment for RGH. “The Astrarium’s attractions focus on inspiration, innovation, and human achievement, so exploring the Silk Road, as a means of connecting cultures and ideas, is a natural fit for this unique experience.”

The exhibition serves as the foundation for a new interactive, augmented reality game in which park guests take on the roles of merchants, citizens, and explorers traveling the Silk Road. The game will send players on quests through the Hijazi Gardens to engage with the exhibit content, other guests and park staff … exploring the gardens, trading virtual goods, and learning about other cultures along the way through the use of personal mobile devices and other, in-park technology. For example, one player could take the role of an English Nobleman who needs 10 peppercorns as a dowry for the girl he wants to marry. To get the peppercorns, he needs to trade English goods for Chinese silk which will subsequently be traded for Indian Spices.

“This important blending of the entertainment world and the museum world will result in an incredible new approach to engaging our visitors with history,” said Ayoubi. “In the beginning, RGH started with a vision for making education fun and interactive. With the Silk Road adventure at the Astrarium, we’re blurring the lines between the real world, the virtual world, and history, which will serve to usher in a new way of engaging audiences with museum content.”

About The Red Sea Astrarium
Built upon the foundations of creativity, integrity and wisdom, The Red Sea Astrarium (TRSA) is a celebration of collaboration and innovation transcending cultures, geography, and even time. The 184-acre Astrarium features four luxury hotels, lush botanical gardens and an impressive collection of entertainment, dining and retail offerings that will soon elevate Jordan to a prominent place among the world’s leading leisure destinations. The project also serves as a catalyst for advancing regional technology and utility infrastructures with clean energy and state-of-the-art water and waste management.

Overlooking the Gulf of Aqaba, the Astrarium is home to a spectacular array of attractions and entertainment experiences, all of which seek to engage and inspire guests to explore their world, discover new ideas, and dream big dreams. While most attractions focus on cultural or historical themes, the Astrarium is also home to a signature Star Trek experience, created in collaboration with Paramount Parks & Recreation and CBS Consumer Products.

Holiday World Announces 2013 Additions to Splashin' Safari Including Rethemed Pilgrim's Plunge

Santa Claus, IN, USA (October 23, 2012) -- Following one of the hottest summers on record, Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari are creating more ways for families to stay cool in 2013.

That’s according to park president Dan Koch, who says the investment of $6.5 million provides everything from a new water-slide complex to misters throughout both parks.

“We’re adding four new in-the-dark water slides in a complex called RhinoBlaster,” says Koch. “The longest slide is 350 feet and includes a half-pipe element - similar to our Zinga water ride – for a really cool back-and-forth skate-boarding effect.”

Splashin’ Safari will gain a second ride, as the Pilgrims Plunge shoot-the-chute ride becomes part of the water park and is renamed Giraffica.

“We’re not moving the ride, just the park boundary,” says Koch. “Splashin’ Safari’s entrance will also be expanded and we’re adding a new style of lockers. This is part of our ongoing effort to improve our guests’ experience here at the park.” Splashin’ Safari is ranked as the nation’s #1 water park by, the world’s largest travel website.

In Holiday World, a classic teacup ride – Kitty’s Tea Party – will be added to Holidog’s FunTown, plus a larger high-dive pool, stage and seating area will replace the current theater.

Additional projects for 2013 include:

• Expansion of Happy Halloween Weekends to include six weekends
• After-dark light show for summer nights
• 20 additional cabanas
• Misters and fans throughout both parks
• More shade structures and seating

Ed Hart's Kentucky Kingdom Redevelopment Company Releases RFP Submission

Louisville, KY, USA (October 22, 2012) -- Kentucky Kingdom Redevelopment Company (KKRC) on Friday issued its response to the state’s Request for Proposals to reopen and operate Kentucky Kingdom. KKRC is a partnership consisting of Louisville investors Ed Hart, Ed Glasscock, Bruce Lunsford, and the Al J. Schneider Company (represented by its President, Mary Moseley).

Commenting on KKRC’s proposal, Ed Hart remarked, “In addition to responding to the specific questions the state posed in the RFP, we included a detailed business, marketing, and financing plan, as well as an executive summary of that plan, so the state would have the most thorough explanation possible of our vision for Kentucky Kingdom. We are making all of this information available to the public and we encourage any other bidders to make their proposals public as well. After all, Kentucky Kingdom is owned by the taxpayers of Kentucky and they have a right to know what’s going on. As noted in a number of news reports, many people are concerned that the state’s decision-making process for Kentucky Kingdom has been less than transparent.”

The highlights of KKRC’s proposal are as follows:
  • KKRC is making a $120-million commitment to restore Kentucky Kingdom as a full-fledged regional theme park ($50 million in start-up funding and $70 million over the term of the lease with the state).
  • A reopened Kentucky Kingdom will yield $521 million in net new economic benefits for the Commonwealth of Kentucky and $35 million in net new fiscal benefits for Metro Louisville over a 30-year period.
  • Including the jobs it will stimulate in the hospitality industry and construction trades, Kentucky Kingdom will produce, on average, 2,150 full-time equivalent jobs annually. The park itself will directly produce 60 full-time jobs and, in addition, will employ more than 700 people in seasonal positions each year.
  • KKRC will restore 37 theme park rides and water attractions at Kentucky Kingdom. In addition, it will return the park’s more than 100 buildings to first-class condition.
  • KKRC will add four new theme park rides, including a spectacular new $15-million roller coaster, the first coaster to be introduced at Kentucky Kingdom in over a decade.
  • KKRC will double the size of Kentucky Kingdom’s water park by adding three new towers with multiple body, tube, and raft slides and a new 30,000-square-foot water attraction.
  • KKRC will also focus on beautifying the landscaping at Kentucky Kingdom, treating it as yet another important attraction for the park’s guests.
  • KKRC will offer affordable pricing, especially for season passes and the food at the park.
Hart added, “Our intent is to return Kentucky Kingdom to its previous position as the region’s top ride park, situated on beautifully landscaped grounds. Only Kings Island will have significantly more rides – about 30% more. But since Kings Island’s attendance is three times greater than Kentucky Kingdom’s, their guests often wait in long lines for the rides. Our guests won’t have those long waits. That translates to greater guest satisfaction – and that’s what builds attendance.”

When asked about Governor Beshear’s indications that Kentucky Kingdom should perhaps be demolished to make way for a better use, Bruce Lunsford said, “The Governor wants to permit casino gambling in Kentucky so the state doesn’t lose revenue to Indiana, Ohio, and Tennessee. I think the same thought process should apply to theme parks. We don’t have casino gambling right now, but we do have a great theme park. We don’t want to demolish a valuable state asset and thereby surrender even more revenue to those other states.”

Since he has been involved for almost three years in an effort to reopen Kentucky Kingdom, Ed Hart was asked whether he is getting frustrated with the process. Hart responded, “I am concerned that the Fair Board and state economic development and tourism officials have not shown more urgency about reopening Kentucky Kingdom, especially since they have repeatedly declared to the media that it is their number one priority.”

Hart added, “Including our response to the RFP, we have submitted a total of four proposals to the state. The first two were submitted prior to September 30, 2011, when the Fair Board, chaired by Ron Carmicle, abruptly ended the discussions with my company. At Governor Beshear’s request, we gave a third proposal to Mary Lassiter, Secretary of the Executive Cabinet and State Budget Director, on August 7, 2012. Shortly thereafter, the Governor instructed the Fair Board to seek other bidders, but encouraged me and my partners to submit our proposal as well. It has been somewhat frustrating.”

Mary Moseley added, “Kentucky Kingdom is essential to Louisville’s hospitality industry. Many hotels and motels rely on business generated by the theme park. To lose the park or see it reduced to a smaller operation that would not encourage overnight stays would really be a missed opportunity for Louisville. How is it that the nation’s 16th largest metropolitan market is content to let its theme park sit idle?”

Ed Glasscock summed up KKRC’s position, saying “We feel the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Louisville delegation to the state legislature, and other local and state officials should be more active in supporting efforts to reopen Kentucky Kingdom, especially since re-opening the park is in the best interests of our state and our local community. Our proposal provides both substantial start-up capital and a program of continued annual reinvestment, which will ensure the park’s success. We have a seasoned local operator in Ed Hart, who has a proven track record. And last but not least, my partners and I, being Louisville residents, will be responsive to the community.”

AMPAS Reveals Piano and Pali's Design For Motion Picture Museum

Artwork courtesy Renzo Piano Building Workshop
Beverly Hills, CA, USA -- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that it has reached its initial goal of $100 million toward a $250 million capital campaign to fund the upcoming Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Concurrently, the Academy unveiled its vision for the first major U.S. museum dedicated exclusively to the history and ongoing development of motion pictures. Designed by award-winning architects Renzo Piano and Zoltan Pali, the non-profit museum which will be located in the historic May Company Wilshire building in Los Angeles, is slated to open in 2016.

"The Academy Museum will be a landmark that both our industry and our city can be immensely proud of," said Academy CEO Dawn Hudson. “I appreciate the unwavering support of our board, our members, and especially our campaign chairs, all of whom have led us through this crucial stage."

Launched in early 2012 by Campaign Chair Bob Iger and Co-Chairs Annette Bening and Tom Hanks, the campaign has raised $100 million through private donations towards a $250 million goal. “The early response to our fundraising campaign has been outstanding and is incredibly encouraging,” said Iger. “We are so grateful to the founding supporters of the campaign, who share our vision and passion for creating the Academy Museum.”

Located on the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) campus, the nearly 300,000 square-foot Academy Museum will revitalize the historic building, which has been vacant or underutilized for nearly 20 years, and weave it back into the fabric of the city.

The design fully restores the Wilshire and Fairfax street-front facades of the 1938 Streamline Moderne building, and includes a spherical glass addition at the back of the original building. Designed to represent the marriage of art and technology, the addition will house a state-of-the-art theater which replaces an extension made to the structure in 1946.

“The design for the museum will finally enable this wonderful building to be animated and contribute to the city after sitting empty for so long,” said Piano, the Pritzker Prize winning architect. “I am very inspired by the Academy’s name and mission, the idea of the arts and sciences working together to create films. Our design will preserve the May Company building’s historic public profile while simultaneously signaling that the building is taking on a new life that celebrates both the industry and art form that this city created and gave to the world.”

"A major movie museum in the heart of this city has been a long-held dream of the Academy," said Academy President Hawk Koch, "Thanks to the latest technological developments we can take the visiting public through time, back into our history and forward toward our future."

Through immersive exhibitions and galleries, special screening rooms, and an interactive education center with demonstration labs, the museum will draw from the Academy's extensive collections and archives, which include more than 140,000 films, 10 million photographs, 42,000 original film posters, 10,000 production drawings, costumes, props and movie-making equipment, as well as behind-the-scenes personal accounts from artists and innovators – the Academy’s membership – working in the motion picture industry.

“Hollywood has played an unparalleled role in bringing American art, culture and creativity to people around the world,” said Antonio Villaraigosa, mayor of Los Angeles. “The Academy Museum will be a remarkable resource for L.A. that will both celebrate the industry that has defined our city and provide an essential resource that reinforces our position as leader and innovator.”

The $100 million raised includes significant commitments from:
  • Campaign Chairs and their families: Annette Bening and Warren Beatty, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, and Bob Iger and Willow Bay
  • Academy Governors, Past Presidents and their families, including: Bill Condon and Jack Morrissey, Richard and Bonnie Cook, Rob and Shari Friedman, Sid and Nancy Ganis, Jim and Ann Gianopulos, Gale Anne Hurd, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, Hawk and Molly Koch, John and Nancy Lasseter, Walter Mirisch and Lawrence Mirisch, Bob and Kay Rehme, and Tom and Madeleine Sherak
  • Corporate partners, including Dolby Laboratories, Panavision, Technicolor, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Entertainment Partners/Central Casting, Girard-Perregaux Watches, and The New York Times
  • Film studios and entertainment conglomerates, including The Walt Disney Company, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Bros. Entertainment, and Lionsgate
  • Individuals and foundations, including Cecilia DeMille Presley, Lucasfilm Foundation, Shirley Temple Black and Family, Ken and Carol Schultz, The Mary Pickford Foundation, Alan and Cindy Horn, Frank and Fay Mancuso, Bob and Eva Shaye, The Four Friends Foundation, the Film Music Foundation, and Jerry and Linda Bruckheimer
  • Industry guilds, including the Directors Guild of America, Producers Guild of America, SAG-AFTRA, and the Writers Guild of America, West.
The Academy will also provide an endowment to support the Museum’s long-term programming.

“The Academy Museum will have a profound impact on the cultural landscape of Los Angeles. The decision to locate this museum in a historic building on LACMA's campus will bring incredible benefits to both institutions and their visitors. It is a whole that is bigger than the sum of its parts,” said Zev Yaroslavsky, chairman of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

Texas State Fair Icon "Big Tex" Erupts in Flames

Dallas, TX, USA (October 19, 2012) -- Greg Janda of NBC 5 Dallas-Ft Worth reports on this morning's fire which destroyed the Texas icon:

"Stunned attendees at the State Fair of Texas witnessed the iconic Big Tex go up in flames Friday morning.

"Some fabric that made up the towering structure's hand and sleeves could still be seen as firefighters gathered around the scorched area.

"Big Tex's 75-gallon hat, 50-pound belt buckle and slow drawl -- "Howdy, folks!" -- have been greeting fair visitors since 1952. This year's fair, which closes Sunday, had been celebrating Big Tex's 60th birthday.
'It's a great loss for us because of its icon stature,' fair spokeswoman Sue Gooding said.

"Gooding said she didn't know the cause of the fire but did note electrical controls move Big Tex's mouth and head. Gooding noted that no one was injured in the fire and added that she expects him to be back for next year's state fair.

"'He'll be back, bigger and better than ever,' she said."

(R&F), a company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, for the establishment of Hainan R&F Ocean Paradise.  This will be a destination theme park on Hainan Island, China focusing on marine animal attractions, with a similar format to VRL’s successful Sea World on Australia's Gold Coast.

The site will also include a world class water park like VRL’s Wet 'n' Wild on the Gold Coast and Sydney Wet 'n' Wild, which is currently under construction.

The second agreement appoints Village Roadshow as the exclusive operator of both Hainan R&F Ocean Paradise and Hainan Wet 'n' Wild for a period of up to 20 years.

Hollywood, CA, USA (October 17, 2012) -- In conjunction with IAAPA 2012, the Hollywood, CA.- based Goddard Group, (currently celebrating its 10th Anniversary Year,) and its Founder/Chairman/CEO Gary Goddard, have announced the slate of new projects in which the company is currently actively engaged. The Goddard Group will be exhibiting during IAAPA 2012 in Orlando, FL, at Booth # 1347. Mr. Goddard made these announcements:

Following on the heels of the immensely successful GALAXY MACAU, which opened in Macau, China, in May of 2011, The Goddard Group has been engaged for the last year in creating and developing the concept and design for another, upcoming, mega-casino in Macau, this one for a major Macau-based gaming entertainment company. While no details can yet be provided at this point, the project promises to become the next major new iconic destination resort in Macau.

Goddard’s work has also been the subject of public acclaim elsewhere in China during October, when “Shenfu New Town,” an entirely new, 22 square kilometer city in China (with 2 square kilometers located in the heart of the city) planned and designed by Goddard and his team, previewed its new themed monument, the “Ring of Harmony”. This new global icon was created as a fitting symbol for this new city, representing the harmony between man and nature, between family life and working life, and between suburbia and urban life.

“The Ring of Harmony,” over five hundred feet high, stands at the edge of a central lake located at the heart of the new town, and provides an inspirational symbol which can be seen from every part of the city. Reflected in the lake, the “Ring of Harmony” image creates a perfect figure “8,” a symbol of good fortune throughout China and most of Asia.

Early October saw the opening of the first attraction in a multi-project deal between South Korean theme park Lotte World and Goddard Group. The children's ride, named “Jumping Fish,” combines a Zamperla Flying Tigers ride system with a lavishly detailed undersea environment, to create one of the most uniquely-themed flat rides in the world. This combined effort between the Lotte World team and Goddard Group’s designers has resulted in a highly original and popular children’s ride and is already a signature experience for small children and their parents.

The Goddard Group is currently in development on an upcoming musical attraction dubbed "Broadway 4D," which will debut in New York City in the early Spring of 2014. Landlord New 42nd Street has signed a long-term lease with  Broadway 4D Theatres, formed by a group of entertainment industry veterans that will take over the site at 217 W. 42nd Street in Manhattan.

At the core of Broadway 4D is its creator Gary Goddard, Tony Award winning Broadway producer and the pioneering creator of what is now known as “4D Attractions” – shows that place people in an immersive world of 3D film and synchronous “in theatre effects” creating a truly unique theatrical experience – Goddard is heading up a team of highly skilled talents to bring this new production to life. Joining Mr. Goddard as partners in the project are Beverly Hills entertainment lawyer Robert Kory (owner of KR Capital and manager of singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen;) and two Hollywood mainstays as executive producers – producer/director Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects, Superman Returns) and former CBS and Sony top executive Jeff Sagansky, who most recently backed The Smurf Movie, and Adventures of Tintin and other projects as a film financier. Working with Goddard in the development and production of the show will be Forbes Candlish, who serves as the head of the live entertainment division at GGE.

BROADWAY 4D is slated to launch at the Times Square Theatre by Spring of 2014. Songs from musicals by the likes of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber and many other composers will be performed by an array of the greatest stars of the musical theatre in a show unlike any other.
In its continuing role as the lead design company for “Magic World Russia,” slated to be built outside Moscow, the Goddard Group, building upon the approved conceptual design, has now moved into the Master Plan process, expanding from its role during the initial park concept phase. Over the past several years Goddard has been working in close collaboration with Moschanko Investment Group 2000 (MIG 2000), a partner of the Russian Corporation, Central Family Park Magic World. MIG 2000 has assembled a team of industry leading professionals who will be providing the requisite operating, technical and logistic support for “Magic World Russia.”

As currently planned, “Magic World Russia” will encompass several different theme parks. At the center of it all will be “Park Russia,” the site’s flagship theme park, which will celebrate the past, present and future of Russia. Included within “Park Russia” will be a number of themed “Zones.” The connective tissue of “Park Russia” that will thematically tie all of its various “Zones” together will be the incorporation of famous iconic Russian architecture, as well as fantasy-like iconic geographic areas that make up modern Russia.
